Catholic Schools Week
We had a busy time celebrating Catholic Schools Week in Sacred Heart School, Westport. The theme this year ‘Living in Harmony with God’s Creation’ was particularly interesting to engage with. Every morning we began with a thought of the day, read out over the intercom system, to focus our minds for the day. All of the different year groups engaged in activities centred around the theme for the week. For example, our second years went on a guided tour of our local church, St. Mary’s. There they witnessed the amazing artistic creations of the stained glass windows. Our first years made St. Brigid’s crosses in honour of our second patron saint. Our third years participated in a meditation on creation led by a past principal of our school, Sr. Kathleen Friel. The week culminated in a Mass in St. Mary’s in which our first years and their fifth year mentors provided the music and readings for. A special mention goes to our LCAs and their teacher Ms. McHale for creating the artwork for the celebration. The week was a timely reminder of the importance of ‘caring for our common home’ and looking after God’s creation for generations to come.
