On Wednesday 28th November 2018, RTÉ’s Joe Little visited Sancta Maria College to interview Sister Mary Killeen and some students who were involved in the Kenya project. Sister Mary was home from Kenya to receive the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for Peace, Reconciliation and Development from President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin.
In June 2019, ten students and four teachers will be travelling to Kenya for the 9th trip from the school. They will be visiting Sister Mary and all of the projects that she is involved with in Nairobi including schools, drug rehabilitation centres and vocational training programmes. Since 2004, €200,000 has been raised and donated directly to projects put in Kenya. Two projects that Sancta Maria College have been involved with are purchasing plots of land to build a vocational skills centre in Chepareria and a drug rehabilitation centre just outside Nairobi. Fundraising is well underway for the upcoming trip. The girls have spoken at Ballyroan and Firhouse masses to date as well as face painting and selling Christmas cards at the Ballyroan Christmas Fair. There will be plenty more in the new year too.
