Christmas seems to begin earlier every year.  Many shops and businesses compete to have the first and the biggest display of Christmas lights and decorations. Advertisements for Christmas toys commence as early as Halloween and therefore, it is not surprising that some people feel that Christmas is an anticlimax.

Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas.   Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas.  Perhaps this year we can each take some time out to consider the real meaning of Christmas, where it all began and what indeed we are celebrating.
