Team Hope Shoebox Appeal
St. Paul’s Secondary School, Oughterard took part in the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal this year. Team Hope sends thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes to children in Africa and Eastern Europe. The children who receive these shoeboxes are affected by poverty in different ways. Many come from families with very little income, others live on the margins of society or in areas affected by conflict. Shoeboxes bring joy and excitement to children living in often very difficult situations.
As a school we collected 65 shoeboxes! A group of Transition Year students also volunteered at the main Galway Team Hope sorting centre, sorting through the boxes and ensuring every child receives a box that includes something they can wear, wash with, write with and something wow! It was an extremely rewarding experience for the students and a tradition we hope to continue every Christmas.
